SELF-CARE PRESENTATION FOR SIBLINGS OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

This presentation will review what self-care is, why it is necessary for our everyday lives when caring for others, and how we can implement strategies to take care of ourselves. Participants will complete a self-assessment and will be able to identify areas of improvement for their self-care. The presenter will share ways to help participants practically implement self-care in their lives and participants can share their experiences.

 

Aubrey Thornton is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a sibling. She received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has years of experiences working with individuals with disabilities across the lifespan and their families. She is a certified Sibshop facilitator and currently works as a therapist at Aspire Center for Positive Change in Channahon, Illinois. Aspire Center for Positive Change’s mission is to provide a safe, understanding environment dedicated to the overall health and well-being of the individual. Focused on building a therapeutic relationship which values each individual and their story.
